Animals Need Healing Too

313574_290663867624228_1133462604_nHealing is a necessary part of life and this includes ensuring each of the family members are part of this. This is why there is such a rise in holistic services, therapy, healing services but what about the animals? What about those beautiful creatures that greet each person with unconditional love at the end of every day? What about those endless hours of affection and attention from a loved pet? They need healing too.

Many think providing healing to an animal is taking it down to the vet and getting an annual shot and check up. But if that was the case this would be sufficient for an individual person also. Strangely it is not, isn’t it?

Healing with animals is just as imperative as it is to a person, a child and most of all a family member. It is more than shots at the vet or taking some anti-biotics because something has gone untreated or overlooked. It has been proven that many animals suffer depression, anxiety and can benefit from such things as massage, reiki and acupuncture.

To bring home the importance of this, I wanted to share a story about my little girl. My pet is not a pet but a familiar, one that shares my journey and like any family member, is an extension of me.

When she was a puppy she was taken from her mother too soon and when the vet gave her the shots at twelve weeks she had a severe reaction. She lost all of her fur around her face, paws, ended up with horrific sores and even today my stomach turns that she had to suffer this. Several thousands of dollars later, numerous vet visits and nothing could be found. They wanted to put her on cortizone and human anti-histame and still had no idea what was causing it. Then I found a homeopathic vet. Within a week she was making a recovery and they informed me that the vet should not have given her three shots but rather one given her size. She made a full recovery due to the homeopathy.

Since growing up she has always had a sensitive stomach. When she is bloated, not feeling well she comes and sits on my lap, presses her stomach against my hand, looks up and in the eyes is the request for some healing. What follows is thirty minutes of Reiki and she is as good as she was before including eating and playing around.

images-12Healing animals is not only about band-aid reaction or emergencies. Healing is about providing a healthy lifestyle to the animal to ensure that they have the best life possible.

That is the whole purpose of having an animal. It is not about feeding one’s ego to fit into the Jone’s of having a dog, it is someone that is dependent for their whole life and as a family member it is the responsibility of the owner to provide the best life – that includes massages, reiki for when they aren’t feeling well and even acupuncture for pulled muscles. As each person require various forms of healing to remain healthy from exercise, diet, affection, routine and other areas so too do animals. Every living creature will benefit and most of all as a family member, the family will reap the rewards from a healthy and happy animal.

The beauty of this inclusion and acknowledgement means that this loved part of the family can be around for many, many years to come.
