Viva La Vegan!

Ramona Cadogan is a science teacher, tutor, personal trainer, pilates teacher, hula hooper and a raw vegan chef who enjoys a healthy holistic organic raw vegan lifestyle.

Why Vegan?
I became raw  vegan  in 2006 and have been off meat since 2000. I did it to protect the animals.
How and why did you decide to become a vegan?
I decided to go vegan because I wanted to protect the animals and for a cleaner diet. I became vegan based on an influence from my friends who had opened the first raw vegan restaurant in Queens NY called Exotic Super Foods.
How long have you been vegan?
Over 7 years.
What has benefited you the most from being a vegan?
My benefits are protecting the environment, not harming animals and eating a plant based diet lifestyle.
What does veganism mean to you?
Veganism means respecting animals - not just about the diet.
What sort of training do you do?
I do a crossfit and circuit training. I also sprint on flat and incline surfaces. I enjoy pilates, hula hooping and yoga.
How often do you (need to) train?
I train 5 to 6 days a week.
Do you offer your fitness or training services to others?
Yes as a personal trainer, pilates teacher and a hula hooper
What sports do you play?
Strengths, Weaknesses & Outside Influences
What do you think is the biggest misconception about vegans and how do you address this?
The biggest misconception is where do I get my protein. I do not let misconceptions get to me. I consume protein by eating nuts, seeds but mainly tons of greens.
What are your strengths as a vegan athlete?
My strength as a vegan athlete is my power and strength.
What is your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge is to realize that I must not over train.
Are the non-vegans in your industry supportive or not?
Are your family and friends supportive of your vegan lifestyle?
Yes, I have supportive friends and family.
What is the most common question/comment that people ask/say when they find out that you are a vegan and how do you respond?
The most common question is how do you get all your nutrients? I tell them I get all my nutrients from greens, fruits, nuts, seeds and taking raw vitamin B12 and D3.
Who or what motivates you?
I motivate myself by my daily affirmations.
